About Me

Ananya Prasad

Think back to a time when you got through something challenging, mentally or physically that you didn’t think you could achieve and the sheer satisfaction in realising that you were, after all, capable of it. For me, this is the appeal of outdoor adventures and physical challenges, that remind us we’re capable of more than we believe.

Since I can remember, I’ve always loved the great outdoors, going on new adventures and trying new activities. Whether it’s learning to skydive solo, kayaking, trekking, rock climbing or mountaineering, adventure sport is something I’ve been lucky enough to try.

Born in India and raised in the UK, lack of diversity in adventure sport has always been glaringly apparent to me. While there are a myriad of reasons for this, I hope to inspire more people of colour and women into adventure sport and rowing.

So far fewer than 25 women have successfully rowed solo across an ocean. By participating, I hope one day that women and people of colour in adventure sport isn’t something distinctive, but the norm.

As part of Shackleton’s ‘Live Courageously’ campaign which I was privileged to be a part of, we spoke about why representation is important in any field, including the outdoors.’
